Consoles or Computers? Which Do You Prefer?
Who says’ PC games are dead? Well, I’m sorry to say that it isn’t and it’s here to stay. So says this article from the Boston Globe.
We’re trying to debunk the great myth - that consoles are reigning supreme over computer games. See the latest release, Age of Conan, which sold 400,000 copies in May. It’s considered one of 2008’s successful debut. Sorry guys, you may only play it on your PC’s.
So what makes PC games thrive? Kevin Unangst, senior global director of Windows gaming at Microsoft Corp., has the answer. He said that US sales retail decline figures fails to give the whole picture. It didn’t “take into account the massive shift of online gaming on the PC.”
PC’s are also booming in terms of profit from MMOs. Age of Conan and the ever popular World of Warcraft are MMOs, hundreds of thousands play these games (WOW claims a whopping 10M customers), non of which are available on the consoles. Aw.
And they haven’t taken into consideration the casual games, which generated $1.7B last year alone, 20% from 2006, according to the Casual Games Association. Casual games may be simple in nature, but it doesn’t stop one from playing at least 7 hours a week, almost a day’s time at work.
So what’s it going to be folks? You decide.

I like the idea of having a game on a console, it ensures it’s compatible…..but a lot of games I would just rather play with a mouse and keyboard.
