Game Night at the Office
The company, where I work my day’s at, must be one of the coolest in my country. Not only is it the biggest game company here in the Philippines, it’s workforce must be one of the biggest consortium of gamers, too.
To prove my point, we used to have an unofficial game night, every Friday. Where else do we do it? At the office, where the electricity is free, airconditioning is on 24/7 and we can hang out as long as we want.
Marketing head, Mon Macutay, or more widely known as GM Tristan just thought of a great way to amp up the game. He made game night friday, official! Wee!
We were asked to form groups of gamers and assign who to play which game. This includes Starcraft (PC), Counter Strike 1.3 (PC), Tekken 5 (PS2), NBA 2k8 (XBOX), Guitar Hero 3 (XBOX) and Mario Kart DS (Nintendo DS).
Guess what I’ll play? Ahaha, yeah I’m kart 1 of 4 in our team. Gooo Princess Peach! Woot!
Although I play all of these, though in mediocrity, (except for NBA 2k8, which I still have yet to try) I can only be of help to my team by brutally banging up other karts and carrying items for them. I need to work on my turbo drift, if I want to go for speed.
Why do I feature this? In my opinion, having a game night at the office is a great and inexpensive way to boost employee camaraderie. Have your employees bring in their consoles and handhelds. Play one on one or team. Have non-gamers root and cheer for their favorite players.
You may also try it with relatives too, in a family reunion. Have them non gamers laugh their heart out at their n00b-ness or watch the pros in action.
It’ll be a blast, believe me!
